My personal view of Idi Amin is that he tried to be a 19th century Baganda King in the post-war era of African development and independence. His humble origin, from the frontier West Nile area, was the yoke that he sought to overcome. Amin honed his opportunistic skill in the KAR within Kenya; and later, with Obote, supporting the Simba rebellion in Congo. Whether by stealing Congolese Gold or British admiration, he desperately needed to be part of history.
